PM Modi underlines 1, 2 3 moves India made quicker or differently, than other nations
The PM chose the occasion, where he extended the ongoing corona virus lockdown till May 3, to hail citizens of India for strictly adhering to it despite obvious hardships.
1) The first shield India put up, according to Modi, was that India began screening of flyers coming in from foreign countries even before there was a single Covid-19 case in the country. This was in stark contrast with America and some European countries that took much longer to put such restrictions in place.
2) Then, before India’s Covid count reached 100, the government made 14-day isolation mandatory for those who were coming in from other countries, especially those already clearly under virus attack.
Comparison with others isn’t good in such matters, but some realities can’t be overlooked, Modi said. He added that the crucial time India bought itself by making the above moves early was the reason why many other nations were overwhelmed, and India was not.
The manageable stage that India is currently in would have been unimaginable without this timely, holistic and integrated approach, Modi insisted.
He used an example to drive his point home: India was at the the same place as many other nations around a month ago. But now, India stands far better compared to those countries — with 25-30 times fewer cases.
The path of distancing and lockdown that India took turned out to be the best course, and the dividends are there for all to see, said the PM. It has proved costly from an economy perspective, but it is being talked about across the world, he added.
