Tehran : Iran Football Federation (FFIRI) has said that it is unable to obtain financial support from FIFA due to the ongoing ban on the country’s banking system. FIFA, the world regulatory body of football, has announced that it will provide $ 150 million in aid to member associations in the next few days.
FIFA believes that this will be its first step under the relief scheme to help the football community affected by the Covid-19 epidemic. However, FFIRI says that it faces serious problems in obtaining financial support from FIFA as the US ban on Iran’s banking system is still in force.
The Tehran Times quoted FFRI treasurer Ali Soleimani as saying that sanctions against Iran are in force. He said, FIFA has not yet worked out a secure solution to pay Iran football revenue. I think there is a problem getting financial support from FIFA.
Soleimani said, many efforts have been made in this regard, but we have not reached a proper solution. FIFA had said in a statement last week that all operating funds for 2020 and 2019 will be disbursed to 211 member associations.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino had said that, “The epidemic has created unprecedented challenges for the World Football Community and FIFA has a duty as a world regulatory body of football to be there and help those in need.” He had said, it starts with providing immediate financial support to our member associations, many of whom are facing severe financial crisis.
