NEW DELHI: Maruti Suzuki, Hero MotoCorp, Tata Motors and Bajaj Auto have announced the closure of their production plants due to the worsening conditions caused by the Covid-29 virus. Mahindra & Mahindra, Honda Cars and Fiat have also closed their projects. Maruti Suzuki, the largest car maker in the country, has announced the closure of its manufacturing plant in Haryana. Production projects and offices in Gurugram and Manesar are being closed for immediate effect for an indefinite period. The research and development institute at Rohtak is also being closed, Maruti Suzuki said in a regulatory document. Tata Motors has closed its production plant in Pune from March 3 to 8. Mahindra & Mahindra closed the Nagpur project on Sunday and decided to close the project at Chakan and Kandivali from Monday night. Hero MotoCorp, the world’s largest two wheeler manufacturer, has closed all its manufacturing plants in India, Cambodia and Bangladesh. The company’s Global Parts Center in Rajasthan has also been closed. Fiat Chrysler has discontinued its production plant at Ranangaon, near Pune. Honda Cars has also discontinued its projects. “We will definitely overcome this crisis because of the concerted efforts,” said Goku Nikanishi, Honda’s president and CEO.

Bajaj Auto shut down projects in Akurdi, Chakan and Aurangabad since Monday. The closure could be continued for up to eight weeks, the company said. Due to this, many of the employees and their families working in the project are afraid to move in the coming days.
