According to information received, the body was that of a 42-year-old man originally from Chennai. He had reached Puducherry to visit his wife and children after they got stuck in a lockdown. He was rushed to hospital after his wife started having chest pains. But, he died at the hospital. This person’s corona test was also positive. So the relatives refused to accept the bodies. Therefore, the responsibility of cremation fell on the hospital staff.
Health workers took the body in an ambulance to the burial site. The video shows him taking the body out of the car and throwing it in a pit. The body was wrapped in a white cloth. The corpse must be kept in a bag according to the Corona protocol. However, it appears that the Corona Protocol has been violated here.
The video shows four people wearing PPE kits. They take the bodies down from the ambulance and throw them into the pit. One of them is saying to the government official present, ‘The body has been thrown away’ … After that, the officer is also seen showing his thumb and showing the ‘OK’ sign. There were strong reactions on social media after the video surfaced.
The health director of Puducherry later tried to make up for the “sudden escape from the hands of the staff while carrying the body for burial”. But Puducherry Deputy Governor Kiran Bedi said a show cause notice had been issued to those involved in the case.
