Maharashtra Legislative Council elections: Pankaja Munde’s name not in BJP’s list, these 4 got place

Pankaja Munde, during a public rally in December, openly criticized his party (BJP) and declared himself out of the core committee of Maharashtra. However, he never announced to leave the party.

Maharashtra Legislative Council elections are going to be held on May 21, for which the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has released the list of candidates. BJP has not given place to senior leaders Eknath Khadse and Pankaja Munde in this list. In the list released by the BJP on Friday, Ranjit Singh Mohite, who joined the BJP, leaving the National Congress Party (NCP), along with three others, is also named.

Last year, Pankaja Munde lost in the Maharashtra elections to her cousin Dhananjay Munde, who contested on the NCP ticket. Instead of fielding Pankaja Munde in the Maharashtra Legislative Council elections, the BJP has made candidates who are not known, these include names like Gopichand Padalkar, Ajit Gopchhed and Praveen Datke.

Pankaja Munde had to face defeat in the 2019 Maharashtra Assembly elections despite his stronghold occupying the Parli assembly seat. Since this defeat, Pankaja has kept away from his party BJP and former Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

Pankaja Munde openly criticized her party during a public rally in December and declared herself out of the core committee of Maharashtra. However, he never announced to leave the party.

Pankaja had said that if he wants to remove the party, then the party can decide it, because he is now neither a minister nor a corporator. NDTV quoted sources as saying that Pankaja’s close has claimed that she is yet to recover from the defeat and blames the party for her defeat.

Let it be said that the election of Maharashtra Legislative Council is very important for Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. He has to become a member of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly at the earliest, because if he is not able to become a member, then the coalition government in Maharashtra will fall and he will not be able to save his chief minister’s chair. Uddhav Thackeray is to become a member of Maharashtra Legislative Council by 28 May. Although these elections were to be held in April but due to corona virus, it was not possible to hold the elections.
