Zomato is preparing a home delivery of alcohol, this is the plan
Due to the lockdown, alcohol shops across the country were closed since 25 March. These shops have been reopened from this week with the permission of the Central Government. Crowds of people joined as soon as liquor shops opened and the police had difficulty in implementing social distancing, after which the administration had to close liquor shops in many places.
The food delivery company Zomato is now planning to deliver the liquor. The news agency Reuters has given this information citing a document. Zumato Coronavirus is working on this in view of the rapidly growing demand for alcohol in the country during the lockdown. Zomato is already delivering grocery items during the lockdown.

After the increase in demand, Delhi’s Arvind Kejriwal government has announced a 70 percent special corona fee on liquor. At the same time, liquor shops are closed in Mumbai. Currently there is no legal provision for home delivery of liquor in India. The Hindustan Times quoted Reuters as saying that the International Spirit and Wines Association of India (ISWAI) is working towards this with Jumato and other online delivery companies.
Jumato CEO Mohit Gupta wrote in a business proposal to ISWAI that we believe that consumption of alcohol can be promoted responsibly through technology enabled home delivery systems. The age of drinking in the country is 18 to 25 years in different states. Jumato initially intends to begin service in less affected areas of the corona virus. Currently, Zumato has not shared any official information in this regard.
SWAI executive chairman Amrit Kiran Singh said that home delivery of liquor could lead to an increase in states’ revenue during lockdown. According to the report, India’s liquor market was worth about $ 27.2 billion in 2018.
