International Dance Day 2020: After all, who were the famous dancers whose dance day is celebrated in memory
Dance is a medium through which people express their feelings. UNESCO decided on 29 April 1982 to celebrate this special style of the world through a special day. This day is celebrated as International Dance Day to commemorate the birth of legendary dance dancer Jean George Navarre. The reason for the introduction of International Dance Day was to tell the people its specialty. Because many people were not interested in dance. Jean George wanted dance to be included as an essential part in children’s education.
George was a French dancer who specialized in ballet. He wrote about many of the nuances of dance in his book. In addition, he wrote a book and was called Let’s Meet the Ballet. Even though dance was not recognized in the world, but many dance forms have been practiced in India since ancient times. Even Lord Shiva performed Tandava which became a mode of dance.
There are many folk dances in every corner of India. Which includes some popular dance forms like Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, Mohiniattam, Kathak, Kathakali, Bihu, Chhau. The credit for popularizing these dances goes to some popular dancers who contributed greatly to making it famous worldwide.
Some famous dancers of India have attracted people from all over the world with their art. Dance is a medium that teaches unity to the world. There are many dance seekers from India who have made it famous all over the world including Birju Maharaj of Kathak, Guru Kelucharan Mahapatra of Odisha, Mallika Sarabhai for Kuchipudi and Bharatanatyam.
Even though all these dancers have earned their name worldwide and have given a different identity to the dance forms. But even today in many corners of the world, dance is not seen with good eyesight. Even in India, people hesitate to adopt it as a profession.
